This course is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to work safely at heights in the resources and infrastructure industries. Participants will learn how to use safe work practices to effectively eliminate or control the risks associated with workplace falls and comply with Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements.

On completion of this training course, participants will be able to:
- Identify work requirements
- Identify work procedures and instructions
- Access and install equipment
- Perform work safely at heights
- Clean up the work area
This course covers:
- Policies and procedures
- Safety systems and equipment
- Fall prevention measures and devices
- Fall arrest systems
- Ladder risk controls
- Equipment selection, inspection and maintenance
- Hazard identification, risk assessment and controls
- Handling and securing equipment and materials
- Emergency procedures
- Correct fitting of full body harnesses
Participants should have the physical ability to successfully complete practical tasks ranging from donning a fall arrest harness to climbing ladder systems.
They should also have language, literacy and numeracy skills at the level required to read, complete, interpret and communicate workplace documentation relevant to working at heights. This includes entry permits, equipment checklists and risk assessments.

On successful completion of both the written and practical requirements of this course, participants will be issued a Statement of Attainment and a Wallet Card for RIIWHS204E - Work safely at heights.
Each work site will have its own refresher period requirements. Please check with the work site where you will be working. Generally, industry specific requirements for recertification range from every 12 months to every 3 years.
