The Standard 11 Surface Mining Induction course provides training on the skills and knowledge required to meet the Queensland regulatory requirements for working in open-cut coal mining operations in Queensland.

  • Isolation and tagging procedures

  • Lifesaving first aid
  • Local emergency and incident response
  • Firefighting and fire prevention
  • The environment
  • The work process

Prerequisites

Participants must be able to perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (five cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor. You will also need to lift and carry a fire extinguisher to extinguish a fire.

Language, literacy and numeracy skills are required at a level to read, complete, interpret and communicate workplace documentation relevant to the training.

This includes:

  • Identifying and interpreting information from workplace procedures, documentation, legislation and regulations
  • Producing and completing written documents required for workplace procedures and legislative requirements
  • Calculating resource requirements, including use of basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Using everyday language to provide information and maintain conversations in site-based contexts
  • Listening for relevant information in oral texts in site-based contexts

This course is for any person requiring a Standard 11 surface induction to access a mine site in Queensland.

Please note: each mine site may have its own induction requirements. Please check with the mine site you will be working at before enrolling in this course.

Course information

  • Course duration: two days and completion of an On-Site Verification Workbook
  • Delivery methodology: face to face

Certification

Participants will need to successfully complete and submit the On-Site Verification Workbook to SGS Australia Pty Ltd to be verified within six months of completing the theory course. Upon successful completion of the course requirements and on-site verification, a Photo ID Induction Card valid for five years and a Statement of Attainment will be issued for:

  • RIIERR205D Apply initial first aid
  • RIIGOV201E Comply with site work processes/procedures
  • RIIRIS201E Conduct local risk control
  • RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace

Recertification

Generally, this course is to be refreshed every five years, although each mine site may have its own refresher period requirements. Please check with the mine site you will be working at.
