This course provides participants with the refreshed and updated skills and knowledge required for entering and working in confined spaces in the resources and infrastructure industries.
Training is structured to ensure participants have a refreshed and current understanding of hazards and risk controls in and around a confined space and the requirements needed to enter and conduct work in a confined space in accordance with an issued permit.

- Legislation, standards, codes of practice and procedures
- Assessing, entering, working and exiting confined spaces
- Standby duties
- Signage
- Lock, tag out and isolation procedures
- Purging and ventilation
- Issuing and working in accordance with a permit
- Equipment used in or near confined spaces
- Hazard analysis, risk assessment and risk controls
- Procedures for atmospheric monitoring
- Understanding and use of gas monitoring equipment
- Maintenance of gas monitoring equipment
- Use of ropes and knots
Prerequisites
Participants must have successfully completed and hold a current Statement of Attainment for the required units of competency or their equivalents issued within the last three years. This evidence must be provided when making a booking request.
Learners who take this course should have the physical ability to successfully complete practical tasks ranging from donning a confined spaces harness to climbing in and out of simulated confined spaces.
They should also have language, literacy and numeracy skills at the level required to read, complete, interpret and communicate workplace documentation relevant to working in confined spaces. This includes entry permits, equipment checklists and risk assessments.
