As the commercial industries of the world move forward in enabling remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS or, drones), consideration must be given to some of the ageing risk management systems considered adequate and familiar. RPAS applications are being utilised at an exponential rate across industry from large scale pipeline survey operations in the Middle East, inspections of copper mines in Canada and Australia and tasks on offshore rigs in many of the oceans around the world.
As we take advantage of this highly desirable technology, the eyes of the experts focus on integration of RPAS not only into our civil airspace, but also into our commercial space. Just as the challenges of airspace integration have the aviation experts occupied, the corporate world is now realising the challenges associated with due diligence, privacy and corporate responsibility when enabling RPAS.
